LPD Etiquette
1. Be Kind
LPD promotes a positive & respectful class atmosphere for every dancer
If someone is struggling, help them (especially if they are younger or less experienced than you)
2. Be Prepared
Come to class ready to work
Arrive early and stretch beforehand
Bring a snack and some water
Make sure you have everything that you need for class including the correct footwear
3. Dress the Part
Hair must be secured neatly away from the face for all classes
Hair must be worn in a bun for ballet classes
Proper bodywear (allowing visibility of the"big joints": shoulders, hips, knees and ankles) is always required
Sweatpants, sweatshirts and T-shirts are not permitted post warm up
Jewellery is not worn in class
No "street shoes" are permitted in the studio- all outside shoes must be removed in the porch
4. Show Don't Tell
Dancers tell stories and demonstrate technique with their bodies- dancers “show”, they don’t “tell”
You can show respect for your teacher by not talking to your classmates during class (after all you might miss important instructions and/or corrections)
You can show your commitment by arriving early, stretching, and practicing your steps unprompted
You can show respect for the discipline by maintaining excellent posture (even while you wait your turn)and never sit down unless you are asked to
5. Be Thoughtful
Let other dancers go first in line
Allow someone else to take your place in the front row
Give your teacher enough space to teach and respect their personal dance space
Do not stand in front of your dance teacher or class assistant
If you have to leave class, do so after the music stops
6. Say Thank You
All classes end with a “thank you”: a bow, applause, snaps or a simple “Thanks”
LPD Dress Code
At Lynn Panting Dance, we recognize that every student is unique, and their comfort is paramount to their success. Early in my teaching career, I encountered a student with a sensory issue who was ready to quit ballet because they couldn't tolerate the feeling of ballet tights. This experience made me question the rigid rules I had grown up with and realize that such strict requirements were unnecessary. While I still believe that dressing the part can positively impact a student's mindset, I also know that students perform best when they feel confident, comfortable, and most like themselves. That's why LPD's dress code offers options to accommodate the diverse needs of our dancers, ensuring everyone can focus on their passion for dance without unnecessary discomfort.
Hair must be secured neatly off the face for all classes.
Hair must be worn in a bun for ballet classes.
Proper body-wear is always required. Sweatpants, sweatshirts, and over sized T-shirts are not permitted in class. Keep in mind visibility of the "big joints": shoulders, hips, knees and ankles.
Jewellery is not worn in class.
No "street shoes" are permitted in the studio.
All students will require a “nude” layer of tights and undergarments for the recital. This layer is for modesty and dancer comfort during costume changes. This layer could include a combination of: nude bodysuit, nude tights, nude underwear, nude dance-belt, nude bra, and nude body tights.
