Spring Break Recital Prep: What You Can Do Now to Feel Confident on Stage Later

Spring break is the perfect time to relax, recharge… and get recital ready! Whether you're heading out of town or staying close to home, a little bit of planning and practice over the break can go a long way in helping you feel calm and confident when it’s time to take the stage. Here are a few ways dancers and families can make the most of the week:

1. Visit the Recital 2025 Webpage

Our Recital 2025 webpage is your go-to hub for everything you need to know. From costume details and performance schedules to music tracks and FAQs, it’s all there.
Tip: Bookmark the page so it’s easy to access when you need it!

2. Check Your Costume Checklist

Now is the time to double-check that you have all required undergarments, tights, and dance shoes for each performance.
Here’s a quick reminder of what to look for:

  • Properly fitted tights (no rips or holes!)

  • Required dance shoes (clean and in good condition)

  • Nude or performance-specific undergarments

3. Gather Your Hair Accessories

Hair prep can be stressful on recital day, especially if you're missing a key item. Make sure you have:

  • Bobby pins (lots of them!)

  • Hair elastics that match your hair colour

  • Hairspray or gel

  • Hairnets

4. Create a Dance Emergency Kit

A small kit packed in a zippered pouch or container can be a lifesaver backstage. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Safety pins

  • Needle and thread (pre-threaded if you’re feeling fancy!)

  • Nail clippers

  • Extra hair ties and bobby pins

  • Band-aids

  • Tissues or wipes
Bonus: Toss in a small healthy snack (like a granola bar) and a water bottle to keep your energy up.

5. Practice at Home

Your recital music is available on the Recital 2025 page. Take some time over the break to review your dances:

  • Practice your choreography slowly, then with music

  • Run through entrances and exits

  • Focus on clean arms, clear transitions, and storytelling

  • Try performing your piece full out once or twice, imagining the audience watching!

6. Plan Ahead for Show Day

Start thinking about what you’ll need to do to be ready on recital day:

  • Pack your laundry basket with your shoes, tights, water bottle and your emergency kit

  • Choose your outfits for rehearsal and performance day

  • Review your call time and location

  • Talk to your grown-ups about transportation and meals on show day

7. Rest, Recharge & Stay Inspired

Spring break is also a chance to give your body some well-deserved rest. Take care of yourself by:

  • Getting plenty of sleep

  • Stretching gently or going for walks

  • Watching inspiring dance videos or performances

  • Journaling or drawing your recital excitement!

We’re so proud of the hard work you’ve done so far this season. With just a little spring break prep, you’ll feel ready to shine on stage at Recital 2025!
