Embracing Vulnerability

LPD, 2024

Face Your Fears!

One of the most significant barriers to confidence is fear – fear of judgment, fear of failure, fear of not being good enough. Dance class can provide a safe space to confront these fears head-on. In a supportive environment, dancers are encouraged to let go of inhibitions and embrace vulnerability. Through movement, they learn to express themselves authentically without the weight of self-doubt holding them back.

Here are three ways that LPD encourages dancers to embrace their vulnerability.

LPD Creates a Safe and Supportive Environment

LPD fosters a culture of trust and openness within the dance studio. We encourage students to express themselves freely without fear of judgment. We emphasize that making mistakes is a natural part of the learning process and an opportunity for growth.

Our instructors lead by example by being open about our vulnerabilities and challenges, when appropriate.

LPD Uses Improvisation and Freestyle Movement

LPD incorporates improvisational exercises and freestyle movement into our classes. These activities allow students to explore movement without the constraints of choreography, encouraging them to tap into their emotions and authentic selves. We encourage students to let go of self-consciousness and embrace freedom of movement.

LPD Provides Positive Feedback and Validation

We recognize and celebrate moments of vulnerability. We acknowledge the courage and willingness to take risks. Our instructors offer specific feedback highlighting dancer progress and growth, rather than focusing solely on technical proficiency. Encouraging students to reflect on their experiences and emotions during dance practice, helps them develop a deeper connection to their artistry.
